‘The Simpsons’ is an animated comedy series running on FOX since 17th December, 1989. The show was originally created by Matt Groening and he developed it with the help of James L. Brooks and Sam Simon. Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer are the voice lenders or the show since ‘The Simpsons season 1. The opening theme of the show ‘the Simpsons theme’ has been composed by Alf Clausen. The long list of executive producers other than the production companies, Gracie Films and 20th Century Fox Television consists of Al Jean, Ian Maxtone-Graham, James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Matt Selman and Sam Simon.
‘The Simpsons’ is a sardonic lampoon of an archetypal family who resides in a fictional middle level American town of Springfield and the family members are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The head of the family, Homer, works as a safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. The responsibilities of his position like he has to keep a watch on large number of workers are completely opposite of his slapdash personality. His wife, Marge, is a typical American mother and housewife. Even though the show is running from last 20 years but the characters did not aged and are shown as they were in the first episode. The Simpsons seasons also include idiosyncratic characters like local celebrities, townspeople, extended relatives, family friends, teachers and co workers.
The Simpsons season 1 was nominated among season’s top 30 highest-rated shows and it was first show of FOX channel to achieve that position. The Simpsons seasons have won 26 Annie Awards, a Peabody Award and 25 Primetime Emmy Awards. It has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Simpsons has been voted #1 in 2005’s 100 Greatest Cartoons and 2001’s 100 Greatest TV characters. In 2008, it has been ranked no.1 in Entertainment Weekly’s ‘Top 100 Shows of the Past 25 years’.
